Review: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

I admit to really not liking this book for the first third. I wasn’t interested in anybody and I’d been spoiled for a twist. So I trudged along, hoping to see what the fuss was about. I was having a really stressful day and this just wasn’t hitting the spot.

I’m not even sure what point it was where this book grabbed me. All of a sudden, I couldn’t put it down. I pretty much finished it in a day.

I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn’t read this yet. Basically, it’s about Nick and Amy. Amy goes missing and Nick is a suspect. He wants to find his wife and follows clues to her disappearance. The novel goes through twists and turns and ends pretty explosively. I was spoilt for more than that, which really took away from my enjoyment of the story, so I refuse to do that to anyone else!

I hear this will be made into a movie, but I’m really not sure how that will go. I don’t know exactly how they could convey everything in this book on the screen.

This was a pretty good time killer. The characters were fairly unlikeable but I got over that. I wouldn’t read this again, but I’m glad I’ve read it now. I found the second half to be far more interesting than the first, as that is really where the psychological thriller kicks in. Though this second half was awesome, the first half let me down and lowered my rating. Again, this didn’t live up to the hype for me, but it’s a good book.

  1. I have a friend who told me pretty much the same about this book! Well,he straight out told me that this book is trash and that the language was pretty lame.
I think he was a little hard on the book, but when I take into account other people’s reviews about Gone Girl,it dawns on me that the book is not ”that” exceptional and apparently does not live up to its hype! Maybe one day I should read it!

    • Quite honestly, I think if you asked me in a few weeks what actually happened in this book, I wouldn’t remember anything other than the basic details and the ending. The characters haven’t left all that much of an impression! The fans of this book are pretty brutal to “haters”, it’s a bit odd. I think it was fun while it lasted but ultimately I don’t think this book deserves the hype at all

Tell me what you think!
